Merthyr Cycling Club

The Executive

Introducting...

In 2017 we  celebrate our 30th year. The club was formed by Merthyr cyclists who were members of the Hirwaun Wheelers Club. As more and more Merthyr cyclists joined it became apparent that there was support for a club of our own.  The club was founded in September 1987 by Gwyn Evans (Club President) other founder members were Robert Philips, Huw Davies, Steve Walsh, Steve Baker, David Tasker, Steven Kinnear, Adrian McDonald and David Jones.

Even though our club administration is based in Merthyr Tydfil, we attract members from other valleys. Our unofficial meeting place is the Mount Pleasant Hotel, Trecynon next to Aberdare Park.

Many of our club members participate in Time Trialling and our club host a time trial series every Wednesday evening from April to early August each year (see the Events page for details). Our members also participate in Road Racing, Audax, and Sportives.

Our group training rides are generally held on Saturday and / or Sundays and typical distances covered range between 50 and 75 miles with a mixture of hills and flats. Actual riding time is approximately 4 hours, a mixture of A and quieter B roads. Climbing is between 1000 and 1500 mts per ride. There is always a coffee and cake stop involved !!. To gain access to group ride information, you will need to be a club member.
